Research Interests

1. Theory of interactions between nonlinear phenomena and electromagnetic signals up to optical frequencies, involving conventional and quantum-mechanical semiconductors; applications to frequency division and multiplication, mixing, radiometry, and millimetre wave WLAN networks. Nonlinear modelling of heterostructure, resonant-tunneling, and quantum-barrier devices. Algebraic and numerical approaches to analyzing the nonlinear interactions.

2. Electro-mechanical biomedical devices.  The current project concerns a novel design for an external knee orthosis that will enable patients suffering from neurolocomotion or muscle-weakness problems to walk with a nearly-normal gait.  This work is being done in cooperation with The Rehabilation Centre, part of the Royal Ottawa Health Care group.  For information see the website of the Institute for Rehabilitation Research and Development: http://www.rohcg.on.ca/irrd/
