VW Beetle Repair Notes

I have a 1974 type 111 "regular" edition Volkswagen Beetle (the model with torsion bar front suspension and a flat front window). This car has been in my family since it was new. It has a stock 1600 engine with 34PICT-4 carburetor, but the ignition has been replaced with a Pertronix Ignitor. It currently reads 171,000 miles on the odometer and is still running on the original engine. I've done almost all the repair and maintenance work on this car over the years and have posted some notes on what I've learned below. A great deal of information is available on the web regarding repair of vintage aircooled VWs. An excellent starting point is www.vw-resource.com . The purpose of the notes here is not to replace these other sources of information, but simply add some detail on a few special topics I've encountered.

I'd be really interested in hearing from anyone who has retrofit a full multiport Mexibug fuel injection system on a Type 1 engine.
