Noise Figure Meters

8970B Noise Figure Meter, 10 MHz to 1600 MHz (2047 MHz Optional)

Location: Undergraduate Lab.Inv #

DESCRIPTION
The 8970B Noise Figure Meter provides easy, accurate measurements. Automatic second-stage correction makes accurate noise figure readings possible even for low-gain devices.

Features:

  • Requires use of separate noise sources, such as HP346C
  • Displays noise figure and gain
  • Frequency Range: 10 to 1600MHz
  • Noise Figure measurement range: 0 to 30 dB (0.1 dB uncertainty)
  • Noise Figure Resolution: 0.01 dB (0.001 dB over HP-IB)
  • Gain Resolution: 0.01 dB (0.001 dB over HP-IB)

The 8971C Noise Figure Test Set allows the 8970B Noise Figure Meter (not included) to make noise figure measurements over an extended frequency range. Careful design and high-performance components, including a stable YIG filter, allow broadband single-sideband measurements from 10MHz to 26.5GHz with a single calibration and sweep. A low-noise preamplifier built into the noise figure test set lowers the second-stage noise figure, thereby reducing a major source of measurement uncertainty. Measurement modes in the 8970B allow for double down-conversion using the 8971C as the second downconverter.

The SNS series N4002A noise source was designed to measure DUT noise figures reliable and accurately up to 30 dB from 10 MHz to 26.5 GHz. This noise source comes with an APC 3.5 connector as standard. Features: Electronic storage of Excess Noise Ratio (ENR) calibration data decreases the opportunity for user error. Automatic download of ENR data to the NFA speeds overall set-up time. Temperature compensation improves measurement accuracy leading to tighter specification of device performance.
