Short nontechnical description of research:

My research ranges from MMIC electronics and integrated antennas to high-performance microwave packaging, with almost equal emphasis on the theoretical, practical implementation, and measurement aspects. The common theme throughout these activities is the achievement of novel techniques leading to affordable, mm-wave, portable, wireless transceiver modules. LTCC packaging research deals with the combination of several alternating ceramic and printed conductor layers to allow integration of all passive, interconnecting and radiating elements in a single, automated, large volume process. Subsequent insertion of electronic, opto-electronic, photonic and MEMS chips leads to a "system-in-package" result. Integrated antenna research exploits high resolution thin-film processing on silicon wafers to realize passive, interconnecting and radiating elements in a standard IC fabrication process. Further integration with electronic devices and novel electro-optic materials is also being pursued to achieve smart radiation functions in a "system-on-chip" format.
