General Network Space Printing Software Howtos

At DOE we have 4 PC labs for your use and 1 UNIX lab if your course work requires it.

PC labs are located in ME4128, ME4174, ME4166, MC6030 and Unix lab is at ME5177. Note all labs run courses at various times please check the schedule before going to the lab.

The DOE computer labs consist of standard PC's that run a non-configurable Windows XP operating system. Non-configurable means that users cannot install any software on the computers using their accounts. All the software needed for the DOE courses is present on the systems. All lab users must create an DOE account to use the system. To create an account go to any PC lab and follow the intructions on the screen or click here.

NETWORK SPACE

Every student is provided with network storage space. This is mapped to your W: drive. There is a quota system on this drive, the amount of space that you are provided with was given to you when you made your account. The minimum is 200MB. To see how much space you have left in Windows Explorer right click to the w: drive and chose properties this will tell you the total space, used space and free space. The W: drive is backed up every night at 2:00am to recover your files, please contact the system adminstrator.
We recommend that users buy USB-drives (or pen-drives) and use it to store their personal data. USB-drives are fast, have large capacity (compared to the W-drive), relatively in-expensive, and allow you to backup, carry and transfer your data to computers running virtually any operating system. If you require large 'fast' temporary space, while you are working in the labs, you can use the C:\temp directory.

PRINTING

There is a printer available in each PC lab.

There is a printer quota system in place at DOE. You were told how much money is available for you to print a month when you made your account. Each pages cost $0.05 and on the first of every month your total is increasing by the monthly amount. At the beginning of every term you will need to reset your quota by clicking this link.

You can check your present quota level by click on the icon printmanagerplus (1K) in the lower right corner. Your quota will not be increase unless you have a valid reason.
