Setup SSH Connections To Department Of ElectronicsTo use SSH with Windows1.There is a free ssh client aviable for windows called Putty it can be downloaded herehttp://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe Homepage http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
2. Once you download PuTTY just double click on the program icon to open the program and type your domain name into the "Host Name"(
Once this information is filled in just click the 'Open' button. 3. Your first time connecting to your site via SSH you will receive the following dialog. It is ok to get this dialog the first time and as long as you are consistent with the domain name you use to connect to the site (i.e. always use johnsmith.com and not www.johnsmith.com or vice versa) you should not see this dialog again.
Just click 'Yes' at this point. 4. At this point you should be connected to your site via SSH and you will be prompted for your username and password If you have any problems please contact tech support. UNIX Users (OpenSSH)If you are using some sort of UNIX, there is no PuTTY client for your system. There is OpenSSH. You can get tarballs from www.openssh.com/portable.html; any OpenBSD mirror should have it. You likely want the portable version if you are not running OpenBSD. I won't cover installing the tarball since there is plenty of documentation on the OpenSSH website for that, I'm sure. There are RPMs available for RPM-based Linux distributions. OpenSSH actually comes with RedHat 7.0, so that's a good place to look if you run RedHat. Other folks might want to look at: http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/OByName.html. You might need to grab the OpenSSL RPM as well if you don't have it. To install the RPMs just do: # rpm -Uvh openss*.rpm |
