Fourth Year Projects Supervised, Co-Supervsed or
Advised in 1997-1998
1. Radio Frequency CMOS Power Amplifier Design
A research-like project exploring the feasibility of an all-CMOS
radio, with particular attention paid to the power amplifier,
including on-chip inductors. Design of class F driving class
E amplifier. Target 250 mW output power.
2. Radio Frequency Bipolar Power Amplifier Design
An experimental project involving design, simulation, construction
and test of a class F driving a class E power amplifier using
an integrated bipolar array. One transistor was used for the
class F, while the remaining four were connected in parallel
for the class E stage. Implementation on a printed circuit board
with surface mounted matching components. Measurement results
agreed favourably with simulations.
3. Radio Frequency Oscillator Design
Design, simulation, fabrication and test of an oscillator using a
bipolar transistor array. Simulations with HPEESOF were used to find
the optimal operating point to minimize phase noise.
4. Wireless Loudspeaker Projects (two students supervised by NMF)
Reverse engineering and redesign of existing wireless loudspeakers.
5. Aerospace Stream C Projects, Telemetry, Tracking, Command and
Communications for a student-designed satellite.
